We Are Time is proud to announce its label launch with Chandra Mixtape Vol. 1. The eight-song digital release and limited edition cassette with cover art by Marin Blanc will be available on April 2nd to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, the monthly event when all fees are waived by the platform.
The mixtape features eight new and unreleased songs from members of the CHANDRA band’s various projects. This includes Chandra Oppenheim’s dubby collaboration with producer Nyles Miszczyk as GNDN, the debut of microtonal indie-rock duo Body Breaks, New Chance’s experimental dance music, Blonde Elvis’s brassy glam-rock, Motorists’ jangular power-pop, MISCZYK’s downtempo trip-hop, and a pair of body-moving remixes by Down 2 Earth and All Energy Must Continue Upwards (Fred Thomas’s electronic alias). Chandra Mixtape Vol. 1 was mastered by Sage Kim at Lacquer Channel Mastering.
We Are Time is an artist-focused initiative from Jesse Locke and Chandra Oppenheim, documenting contemporary music with a focus on intergenerational collaboration. The label’s name is based on the 1979 song by UK post-punk band The Pop Group, who have graciously given their permission. All releases will include beautifully designed physical editions and digital downloads. Several of these titles will follow Chandra Mixtape Vol. 1 throughout 2021, and will be announced in the near future.
Chandra Oppenheim first emerged as an artist in the early 1980s, fronting a band at age 10 with members of acclaimed NYC mutant disco group The Dance. Her Transportation EPs received a deluxe reissue from Telephone Explosion in 2018. Since reforming with a new Toronto-based band, CHANDRA has released a live 7” with Third Man Records, performed at events including Primavera Sound, Part Time Punks, and Sled Island, and was prominently sampled by The Avalanches on their acclaimed album Wildflower.
